Wintertime, Holidays and Training...

The most wonderful time of the year, as said by a popular Holiday song, might not be the most wonderful time to train for an Ironman. Well, at least not for me! As the colder temperatures are upon us, comfort foods (a.k.a. foods with a lot more fat and calories that are tempting me), the skies darkening at 5:30pm and my just plain lack of motivation...those combination of things make it difficult for me to push myself out the door to get my workouts in.

I am so blessed with wonderful friends who help me to stay motivated to get out there and get some much needed workouts in. Thanks Heather, Amanda, MaryAlice and Brooke you have each provided me with so much motivation to get out there, even if it is a 5am run in downtown Waynesville on below freezing mornings or an extra push in cycle class. Couldn't do it without you gals!

Luckily, after completing the Charlotte Half Marathon on December 12, 2010, I have until January 1, 2011 to have unstructured workouts and somewhat of a rest period before more structured workout training regimen will begin from my wonderful coach, Pam. It has been really nice just being able to get workouts in here and there as I feel like it but I am also looking forward to getting back to a regimented plan. I do much better that way, especially when I have a plan!

With the 2011 New Year fastly approaching I am looking forward to my potential schedule of races that will lead me up to the big day in November. As of right now, here's what I have planned:

Covenant Health Knoxville Mararthon - Knoxville, TN - early April
Rev3 Triathlon (half iron distance) Knoxville, TN - mid May
Enka Lake Sprint Triathlon @ Biltmore Lake - mid June
MedWest Sprint Triathlon- early July
Lake Logan International Distance Triathlon - early August
South Carolina Half Iron Distance Triathlon - early October

Of course, sometimes life get's in the way of what we have planned but I am hopefully optomisitic that I can stay healthy and uninjured. :-)

Hope each of you had a blessed Christmas and my wish for each of you is a happy, healthy and fulfilling 2011!
